Television– Devil’s Vision?

“I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!”  This is a Quote from the movie Network. Many Indian TV viewers might declare this statement in the near future. Some programs in TV could be viewed as a virus, which makes people as Zombies.

According to American Comedian Groucho Marx “I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.Well, of course we have discovery, history and many other channels, which serves us with useful information.

But, our own Indian channels for the past decade are looking ridiculous and funny in a bad way.

Reality-shows And Megaaaaaaaaa Serials:

There is only one basic difference between these two. In reality-shows, the participants act very well, whereas in serials the acting is somewhat pathetic.

In a reality show, they lock-up rich celebrities in a good place and their nonsensical day-to-day activities are shown to public through a camera. You could describe this show, with the help of this quote: “ TV  is an invention that permits you to be entertained in your living room by people you wouldn’t have in your home.

Reality shows involving singing and dancing would look-like a masala movie. There is sentiment, anger, love, action and a lot. Kids would participate in these shows with a heavy make-up, they would also talk like adults, and the judges would say WOW to everything they say. These shows wouldn’t end after a final, they will come back to haunt you with another season.

Making a mega serial is simple. All they need is a crying woman and a evil woman. Mega-serial makers always tend to forget the story, so they include some irrelevant plots often. Indian peoples are mostly optimistic, they always expect good roads, governments etc., even though it rarely happens. Somehow, I think Indian serial-viewers are similarly optimistic, that at least some good thing will happen in the end.

News or Nuisance?

Corporate media try to make news rather than reporting news. In India, political news plays like a fiction.  Most of the news channels crave for the sensational news. When they get one, they relay it like a mass madness. Like a creature jumping to trees, they jump from one sensational news to another, by simply forgetting what happened to the previous one. Of course, there are many genuine news papers and channels in India. News is all about truth in a humane way, if even one channel gives us false reports in the name of sensation, then what’s the point to watch it?

Advertisements or Aversion?

Watching the ZooZoo Ad for Vodafone  makes us wonder about the creative mind behind it. Then, there are some Ads, which is very cheap than their product. The most ridiculous ads might be the fair-skin one. To try and get a fair-skin is not a bad thing, it’s an individual’s decision. What’s annoying is these ads show black-skin girl or man as a lazy, less-confident, ugly human, whereas the fair-skin girl or guy are portrayed as the epitome for confidence and looks. How could a advertisement decide a character based on its color? There are many other examples for ridiculous and excellent ads, but that would make a huge list.

I would like to finish this with another quote from the movie Network about TV:

“You’re beginning to believe that the tube(TV) is reality and your own lives are unreal. You do whatever the tube tells you.  You dress like the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you even think like the tube.  This is mass madness.  You people are the real thing, we are the illusion.”
